Ten local leaders and activists of the Awami League were arrested during a daylong special police drive across various areas of Dinajpur, police sources confirmed on Saturday.
Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station conducted a special operation on Friday, detaining 10 Awami League members from multiple locations within the district. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Matiur Rahman officially confirmed the arrests to journalists on Saturday, May 24.
The detainees were identified as Muntasir Mahmud Milon (48), Sakhawat Hossain alias Rafi (38), Rocky Hasan (21), Advocate Mokhsedur Rahman Shahjada (46), Md. Anwar Hossain (50), Md. Sadikul Islam (37), Nazrul Islam (53), Shahinur Islam (40), Azgar Ali (45), and Md. Riazul Islam (54).
Police sources stated that all ten were charged and subsequently sent to court. However, no details about the specific allegations have been disclosed so far.
