Twelve Bangladeshi citizens, including men, women, and children, were detained by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) following an alleged push-in by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) at the Bhurungamari border in Kurigram on Saturday morning.
On the morning of May 24, members of the Diadanga BGB Camp under the 22 Battalion detained 12 Bangladeshi nationals at the Bhashani Mor area of Tilai Union in Bhurungamari upazila. The detainees were reportedly pushed into Bangladesh territory by BSF in the early hours of the day.
Among the detained are four men, five women, and three children. They were identified as Abdul Majid (42), Halali Begum (36), Halal Mia (20), Ataur Rahman (38), Anwara Begum (35), Al Amin (19), Arjina Khatun (16), Ahsan Habib (27), Gulenur Begum (40), Manisha Begum (20), Abu Bakr Siddiq (9 months), Enamul Haque (40), Marjina Begum (30), and Idul Hasan (16). All of them hail from Phulbari upazila of Kurigram.
According to the detainees, they had gone to India years ago in search of work and were recently arrested. On Friday night, BSF allegedly pushed them back through an unofficial crossing point on the border.
BGB patrol members intercepted them at Bhashani Mor and brought them to the camp. Later in the afternoon, they were handed over to Bhurungamari Police Station. Officer-in-Charge Al-Helal Mahmud confirmed the transfer and said legal action would be taken as per the law.
