Dengue claimed 12 more lives in the 24 hours till Sunday morning, marking the highest single-day death toll this year, according to an update released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Over the same period, 740 others were hospitalised with the mosquito-borne disease, DGHS said.
Total deaths this year have reached 179, while total hospitalisations have reached 41,831.
Between 8am on Saturday and 8am on Sunday, six of the new fatalities were male and the other six were female.
Barishal Division, excluding city corporation areas, saw the most deaths at 5, followed by Dhaka South City Corporation with 3 new deaths, and Dhaka North City Corporation with 2 new deaths. The divisions of Chattogram and Mymensingh, excluding both of their city corporation areas, recorded one death each.
Barishal Division, excluding city corporation areas, saw the highest hospitalisations with 165 new patients, followed by Dhaka Division (excluding city corporation areas) with 147 new patients, Dhaka North City Corporation with 122 new patients and Dhaka South City Corporation with 115 new patients.
