BGB : 15 Bangladeshis including women & children arrested from border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has apprehended 15 Bangladeshi nationals, including women and children, who were attempting to cross into India illegally at the Maheshpur border.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested 15 Bangladeshi nationals, including seven women and two children, for attempting to illegally cross the Maheshpur border into India. The arrests took place during separate patrol operations by BGB units stationed at different Border Outposts (BOPs) in the area.

According to a statement issued by the Assistant Director of BGB’s 58th Battalion, Saiful Islam, the detainees were intercepted on the afternoon of March 23. The group, which includes individuals from various districts such as Magura, Narsingdi, Khulna, and Dhaka, was attempting to cross the border illegally.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Miraj (27) from Shalikhak village, Magura,
  • Ujjal Molla (28) from Mathabhanga, Kalaiya, Narsingdi,
  • Shakil Sikdar (22) from B.L. Road, Doulotpur, Khulna,
  • Sabroto Biswas (18) from Haladarpur, Bheramara, Kushtia,
  • Nayan Majumdar (28) from Chanderhat, Mollahat, Bagerhat,
  • Ashok Bala (45) from Sher-e-Bangla Road, Mohammadpur, Dhaka.

BGB’s patrol under the leadership of Havildar Jinarul Islam, stationed at Baghadanga BOP, detained eight individuals from a road in Kanchanpur village. Another group of seven, including women and children, was apprehended by Havildar Shikdar Yunus’ team at the Khusalpur BOP. In a separate operation led by Havildar Jewel at the Raipur village, BGB also seized 48 bottles of Indian liquor.

Due to legal requirements, the detained women and children have been sent to the Jessore Justice and Care Center. The remaining six adults will be charged under the Passport Act and will be handed over to the court.

Liberty News’ local correspondent states that Maheshpur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Faiz Uddin Mirza, confirmed the transfer of the women and children to the care center and stated that the remaining suspects would face legal proceedings.
