In a significant escalation of violence in Syria, 162 individuals loyal to former President Bashar al-Assad were executed after an attack by Alawite rebels. The mass executions include 13 women and 5 children, as confirmed by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The executions, which took place on Friday, come after a series of confrontations between Alawite rebels and the new Syrian government under President Ahmed al-Shara. According to reports from the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the rebels launched an unprovoked attack on government security forces, resulting in numerous casualties.

Following the assault, President al-Shara issued a stern warning to Alawite insurgents, urging them to surrender or face dire consequences. In response, Syrian forces launched a large-scale military operation against the rebels, leading to numerous deaths and executions.

Among the executed individuals, 13 were women, and 5 were children, highlighting the devastating toll the conflict continues to take on non-combatants. As the violence intensifies, the fate of the Alawite community in Syria remains uncertain, with fears growing of further reprisals and bloodshed.
