Two accused escaped from police custody at Chattogram court premises on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a manhunt by law enforcement authorities.
The escape took place around 3 PM on ground floor of the court building, in front of jail section.
The fugitives have been identified as Iqbal Hossain Emon, son of Yunus from Uttar Kolaujan under Lohagara upazila in Chattogram district and Anwar Hossain, son of Kamal Uddin from Begumganj upazila of Noakhali district.
Court sources confirmed that Emon, an accused in a murder case filed with Lohagara Police Station, and Anwar, accused in a narcotics case lodged with Sitakunda Police Station, were brought to court from Chattogram Central Jail for hearings earlier in the day.
After the proceedings, the duo managed to flee from the ground floor area of the court building.
Confirming the incident, Chattogram District Additional Superintendent of Police (Media) Md Rasel said, “Two accused escaped from in front of jail on the ground floor of Chattogram court building in the afternoon. We have already launched operations to capture them.”
Authorities are continuing their efforts to locate and apprehend the fugitives.
