A tragic road accident claimed the lives of two individuals on Friday morning at the Savar Bazar bus stand area on the Dhaka-Aricha highway.

The deceased were identified as Hossain Ali, 55, from Usmannagar village in Charfesson upazila of Bhola, and Sayet Sheikh, 35, from Madbarkandi village in Jajira upazila of Shariatpur, police confirmed.

According to Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saugatul Alam of the Savar Highway Police Station, the victims were standing beside the road, waiting to board a Gazipur-bound passenger bus operated by Thikana Paribahan. Just as the bus arrived and stopped in front of them, a speeding truck slammed into the back of the bus. The impact forced the bus forward, fatally striking the two men.

They were immediately taken to a nearby clinic, where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

Both the bus and the truck involved in the incident were seized by police.

However, the drivers and their helpers managed to flee the scene before law enforcement arrived.

As no official complaints were lodged, the bodies were released to the victims’ families, the OC added.
