At least 2,000 assistant sub-inspectors (ASI) of police will be recruited directly for ensuring security during the general elections in February, said Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam on Wednesday.
Another 2,000 ASIs will be added to the force through promotions, he told reporters at the Secretariat.
The police have sought 8,000 new ASIs ahead of the general elections and have secured government approval for 4,000 personnel. The police are waiting to see how many more ASIs can be added to the force before the elections, Baharul Alam added.
