The interim government on Wednesday imposed a 22-hour curfew across Gopalganj district, following violent clashes that erupted after Awami League activists allegedly attacked a peaceful National Citizens’ Party (NCP) rally in the district town earlier in the day.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, the curfew will remain in effect from 8:00pm Wednesday to 6:00pm Thursday.
The move aims to restore order and prevent further escalation of violence after at least four people were reportedly killed and several others injured during the unrest.
Security forces have been deployed in key locations across the district, and all public gatherings and movement have been suspended during the curfew period, the statement said.
