Indian authorities have arrested 27 Bangladeshi nationals in a late-night operation in Kerala’s Kochi district, citing illegal residency.

Kochi District Police Chief Vaibhav Saxena stated in a briefing on Friday that a joint force detained 54 individuals during the operation on Thursday night. “Preliminary interrogation revealed that 27 of them are Bangladeshi nationals,” he confirmed.

Authorities recovered Bangladeshi national ID cards, birth certificates, and two passports from the detainees, but none could provide valid residency documents.

Liberty News’ international correspondent reports that Kerala Police, alongside India’s Central Anti-Terrorism Squad, conducted the raid as part of a wider crackdown. Legal proceedings have already been initiated against the arrested individuals.
