Twenty-eight Bangladeshi nationals stranded in Iran amid the recent Iran-Israel conflict have returned safely to Dhaka.

Their journey began last Wednesday, covering nearly 3,000 kilometres. They travelled from Tehran to Karachi, reached Dubai on Monday night and finally arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday morning.

A diplomatic source confirmed that all returnees are in good health, although three individuals required medical attention and received appropriate treatment.

Officials said the situation in Tehran is gradually stabilising, and commercial flight operations are expected to resume within the week. Once flights restart, efforts will be made to repatriate more Bangladeshis who wish to return.

During the Iran-Israel hostilities last month, Dhaka had announced plans to evacuate citizens from Tehran, which came under attack. Another group of 28 Bangladeshis, originally scheduled to return on 13 June, remained stranded due to the suspension of air travel.

Currently, around 40 individuals, including the ambassador, embassy staff and their families, are residing at the Bangladesh Embassy in Tehran. In addition, Radio Tehran employs eight Bangladeshis, and with their families, the total number reaches 27. Approximately 10-12 Bangladeshi students and about 10 professionals are also in Tehran.

According to various government sources, roughly 600 Bangladeshis legally reside across Iran, many having lived there for over three decades. Another 800 undocumented migrants have been working in different sectors for more than 10 years. Around 200 Bangladeshi students are enrolled in Iranian institutions, and an estimated 300-500 others are believed to be in the country via human trafficking routes, awaiting transit to third countries.
