3 arrested for betting on Bangladesh-India match

With the start of the Champions Trophy, cricket betting has resumed in India. Three gamblers were caught by Indian authorities while placing bets on the most recent Bangladesh-India match.

The Goa police searched a home in Pilerne village, close to Panaji, on Thursday after receiving a tip. From there, three persons were apprehended. According to the police, they have been taken into custody.

The gamblers are not Goan natives. They reside in Panaji because of their jobs. They came to work here from Gujarat. The identities of the three gamblers have also been made public by the Goa Police. They are Rizvan Bash (20), Zia Uddin (25), and Maqsood Modan (28).

The gamblers were found to have four cell phones, a laptop, an internet router, and Rs 1 lakh 10,000 in cash. Based on the information provided by the gamblers, the police will attempt to apprehend those responsible. On Friday, they were brought before the court.

Liberty News Sports Correspondent reports that on Thursday in Dubai, after winning the toss, Bangladesh decided to bat first and were all out for 228 runs in 49.4 overs. Hridoy scored the highest for the team with 100 runs, while Zakir also contributed with a fifty. Mohammad Shami took 5 wickets for 53 runs for India. In reply, India chased down the target in 46.3 overs, losing 4 wickets along the way, secured the win.
