Three people were killed and one was critically injured after a truck smashed an auto-rickshaw in Gazipur’s Kaliakoir upazila on Saturday morning. The accident occurred around 8:00 am in Namashulai area of the Mauna-Fulbari regional road in the upazila.
According to witnesses and police sources, a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw carrying passengers left Mauna Chowrasta in Sreepur in the morning, heading towards Kaliakair. Around 8:00 am, when the auto-rickshaw reached the Namashulai area on the Kaliakair-Mauna regional road, it collided head-on with a brick-laden truck coming from Kaliakair. The front part of the auto-rickshaw was severely damaged in the crash.
As a result, the auto-rickshaw driver, Obaidul, an unidentified woman (56), and an unidentified elderly man (70) died on the spot.
Liberty News’ local correspondent reports that one person was critically injured and was taken to the Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex for treatment. However, the truck driver fled the scene.
