BGB has arrested 39 individuals, including 20 women and 13 children, at the Maheshpur border for attempting to cross into India illegally over the past two days. The arrests were made during separate operations conducted by the BGB.
On Tuesday evening, Assistant Director Saiful Islam of Maheshpur-58 BGB Battalion confirmed the arrest of the 39 individuals, including 20 women and 13 children, who were attempting to cross the border into India without legal permission. The arrested individuals came from various areas in Bangladesh, including Rajair, Abhaynagar, and Gopalganj.
The arrests took place during separate operations conducted by the BGB at several Border Outposts (BOPs) under the Maheshpur Battalion’s jurisdiction, including Khushalpur, Polianpur, Baghdanga, Kusumpur, and Shrinathpur BOPs. These operations took place between Monday afternoon and midnight. On Monday, 11 women and 8 children were detained, while on Tuesday, 9 women and 5 children were arrested during operations in Baghadanga, Jibonnagar, Shyamakur, and Shrinathpur.
In addition to the arrests, the BGB also seized 50 bottles of Indian liquor during a separate operation led by Subedar Bhuiyan Iqbal Hossain at Rajapur BOP. Another operation led by Subedar Osman at Yadabpur BOP resulted in the seizure of 47 bottles of Indian Fensidil.
Liberty News’ local correspondent states that the arrested women and children have been sent to the Jessore Justice and Care Center, while the seized narcotics are under the custody of BGB and will be destroyed in due course. Maheshpur Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Faiz Uddin Miah stated that the arrested Bangladeshi nationals were attempting to illegally enter India.
