Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Tuesday has advised four sea ports of Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Mongla and Payra to hoist local warning signal no. 3.

Additionally, fishing boats and trawlers in the Bay of Bengal have been advised to proceed with caution and remain close to the coast.

A low-pressure area has formed over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions. This system may intensify, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department. Due to its influence, gusty winds may blow over the coastal areas and sea ports including Cox’s Bazar.

Since morning, the weather in Cox’s Bazar has been rough, with an overcast sky and intermittent light to moderate rain. The sea has become rough due to low-pressure system, prompting tourist police, lifeguards and beach workers to discourage tourists from swimming in the sea.

Earlier on Monday, Meteorological Department issued a heavy rainfall warning for Chattogram and three other divisions starting from 10 AM on May 28, to remain in effect for next 72 hours. During this period, 44 to 88 millimeters of rainfall is expected within 24 hours.

Md. Abdul Hannan, Assistant Meteorologist at Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office, warned that due to heavy rainfall, there is a risk of landslides in some areas of Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram and the three hill districts.

Cox’s Bazar region Additional DIG of Tourist Police, Apel Mahmud, said that the sea is currently very rough due to adverse weather conditions. Swimming in the sea is risky under these circumstances and as a result, tourist police, lifeguards and beach workers are discouraging tourists from entering the water.
