More than 400 tourists stranded in Sajek due to a blockade have been safely brought back to Khagrachhari with the help of the Bangladesh Army. On Monday (September 29) afternoon, troops from Dighinala Army Zone and Baghaichhari Army Zone jointly escorted them via the Jora Bridge area in Dighinala to the Khagrachhari district headquarters.
Harunur Rashid, a tourist from Dhaka, said: “We were stranded in Sajek because of the blockade. Thanks to the support of the locals and the security provided by the army, we were able to return safely. We are grateful.”
Busra, a student of Holy Crescent College, said: “At first, we were scared after hearing the news of the blockade. But the assistance of the locals and the presence of the army gave us courage. It feels relieving to have returned safely.”
After reaching Khagrachhari town, the tourists boarded different buses to travel to their respective destinations.
Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate A.B.M. Iftekharul Islam Khondokar said: “With the prompt action of the army, all stranded tourists have been safely brought back. The situation is now under control.”
