A total of 471 candidates, including 62 women, will contest the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election scheduled to be held under a three-tier security arrangement on 9 September.
These candidates will take part in the electoral race against a total of 28 posts of the DUCSU, said Prof Mohammad Jasim Uddin, chief returning officer, while addressing a press conference held at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, on the university campus on Tuesday.
Of the total candidates, 45 are contesting for vice president, 19 for general secretary, 25 for assistant general secretary, 17 for liberation war and democratic movement secretary, 11 for common room, reading room and cafeteria secretary, 14 for international affairs secretary, 19 for literature and cultural affairs secretary, 12 for science and technology secretary, 9 for research and publication secretary, 13 for sports secretary, 12 for student transport secretary, 17 for social service secretary, 15 for health and environment secretary, 11 for human rights and legal affairs secretary, 15 for career development secretary, while 217 are vying for member posts, he said.
