Robbers shoot and throw bombs in Madaripur, 5 injured

In Madaripur, five people were injured due to a bomb explosion and gunfire by a gang of robbers while they were attempting to flee after committing robbery via waterways.

The incident occurred last night in the Krittinasha River in Char Gobindapur village of Khwazapur Union, under Madaripur Sadar Upazila. The injured individuals, who sustained gunshot wounds, were admitted to Madaripur District Hospital.

The gunshot victims are Helal Molla (44), son of Aziz Molla from Kadamtala village in Bargunna Sadar, Anik Sardar (14), son of Abbas Sardar, Salauddin Sardar (35), son of Kalam Sardar, Dulal Sardar (37), son of Abdur Rahman Sardar, and Saim Faraji (18), son of Hanif Faraji. All of them are sand extraction workers.

Police & locals said that at around 9:30 pm on Friday night, a group of robbers were returning from Shariatpur by river after committing robberies. At that time, when they came between Khowajpur and Rajarhat under Madaripur Sadar Police Station, the people of the area stopped them with a bulkhead (sand-cutting trawler). When they were trapped at one stage, the robbers fired shotgun shots, threw hand grenades from their boat. 5 people were shot. Later, the robbers fled towards Shariatpur.

The seriously injured were rescued and admitted to the 250-bed Madaripur District Hospital. The injured had received up to 21 rubber bullets in their bodies.

Injured Saim Farazi said, “We were ready with sticks to catch the robbers after receiving the information. We were sitting in a big sand-cutting trawler. As soon as we crossed Rajarhat, we stopped the robbers with trawlers from both sides.” During this time, the robbers opened fire and two of us were shot.

Madaripur Sadar Police Station ASI Abdur Razzak confirmed the incident to Liberty News, saying that five people were injured by rubber bullets fired by the robbers. They are undergoing treatment at Madaripur Sadar Hospital.
