Five Nepali nationals have been killed, and four others severely injured in a car accident while returning from India’s largest religious gathering, the Kumbh Mela, in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Witnesses and police reports state that the car lost control while trying to avoid motorcyclists performing stunts. The vehicle collided with a road divider and flipped five times.

The accident occurred late Saturday night on the four-lane road of the Madhubani Bypass in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district.

According to Indian media, the car was carrying nine Nepali nationals from Prayagraj. The driver lost control while trying to avoid a motorcyclist performing stunts on the bypass. The car then crashed into the road divider, flipping five times. Five of the nine people in the car died at the scene, while the other four were seriously injured and are being treated at the Sri Krishna Memorial Medical College hospital.

Witnesses described the crash as so severe that the car was completely mangled. The windows were shattered, and one of the tires was crushed into the car. At the time of the accident, several motorcyclists were showing off stunts on the bypass road. The car, traveling at high speed, crashed while trying to avoid colliding with one of the bikers.

Liberty News’ international correspondent, citing police sources, reported that the severity of the accident was worsened by the airbags failing to deploy in time. The identities of all the people in the vehicle have been confirmed, and efforts are being made to contact their families through the Nepali nationals.
