Five bears rescued from the Swapnopuri Mini Zoo in Dinajpur’s Nawabganj Upazila have been relocated to Gazipur Safari Park.
The bears were handed over to the park authorities on Wednesday afternoon, confirmed Md. Rafiqul Islam, the acting officer and Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) at Gazipur Safari Park.
On Tuesday, the Wildlife Crime Control Unit of the Forest Department conducted a day-long operation at Swapnopuri Park to rescue captive wild animals. During the operation, 48 animals of various species were recovered. That night, the rescued animals were sent to the Dulahazra and Gazipur Safari Parks.
Liberty News’ local correspondent states that Nigar Sultana, an inspector from the Wildlife and Nature Conservation Department, stated that the Forest Department is taking strict action against all illegal mini zoos. She urged the public to immediately inform the nearest forest department if they come across any captive wild animals.
