Burglars looted 500-bhori golds from a jewellery store at Fortune Shopping Mall in Malibagh, past midnight on Thursday.
It would be the second such incident in the capital this week as surging gold prices encourage criminals to steal and hoard the precious metal.
CCTV footage showed two burqa-clad thieves breaking the padlock on the shutter-gate of the store named “Shamp Jewellers” around 3am on Thursday, police said.
The owner said the thieves stole 400-bhori saleable gold, 100 bhori mortgaged gold and Tk40,000 in cash.
He left the store by locking the gates around 9pm on Wednesday. On Thursday morning, the shopping mall’s gatekeeper informed him about the burglary.
