A powerful 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck New Zealand’s South Island on Tuesday, with more than 4,700 people reporting tremors. Despite the intensity, no tsunami warnings were issued. The country’s emergency management agency advised residents in the Southland and Fiordland regions to stay away from coastal areas and the sea, citing risks of unusual and dangerous currents.

The earthquake, which hit an area located within the seismically active “Ring of Fire” region surrounding the Pacific Ocean, has raised concerns, but no major damage or casualties have been reported. The Geological Survey of New Zealand, GeoNet, confirmed the quake’s magnitude and reassured the public that the situation was being closely monitored.

Authorities have cautioned locals to remain vigilant, as the region is known for its seismic activity.
