7 robbery gang members among 9 held in Tangail

Police have arrested nine individuals, including seven members of an inter-district robbery gang in connection with a robbery at a factory at Madhupur upazila in Tangail district.

The information was disclosed during a press conference held at office of Superintendent of Police (SP) in Tangail on Wednesday afternoon.

The arrested individuals are Mamun, 33, Masud, 33, Suruj Ali, 35, Naeem, 25, Rasel, 30, Kajol, 45, Rashedul Islam, 32, from robbery gang and Nannu Mia, 55, and Bellal Hossain, 28, who purchased stolen goods from the robbers.

At the press briefing, SP Md. Mizanur Rahman said that on the night of May 3 at around 2:30 AM, a group of 15–16 robbers broke the lock of main gate of Anam Green Fuel Energy Resource Factory, located at Mahishmara union of the upazila. They entered the factory, tied up the on duty security guard and threatened him.

The robbers then stole equipment including a 250 KVA substation transformer, a generator and electric cables valued at approximately Tk 15 lakh and fled in a pickup van.

Following the incident, Tazul Islam, in-charge of the Anam Green Fuel Energy Resource Factory, filed a case with Madhupur Police Station.

Based on this, police conducted raids in Savar, Sirajganj and several other districts, eventually arresting members of the inter-district gang.

According to confessions made by the arrested robbers, stolen goods and mini pickup used in the robbery were recovered from Mamun’s scrap shop at Balibhadra area under Ashulia Police Station.
