In an operation by the Shahparir Coast Guard and RAB in the Naf River of the Teknaf border upazila of Cox’s Bazar, seven Rohingya drug traffickers were arrested along with two lacs yaba tablets. The information was confirmed by Lieutenant Commander Mohammad Siam-ul-Haque, Media Officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard Headquarters, on Wednesday afternoon.
He mentioned that the Bangladesh Coast Guard regularly conducts operations to ensure the security of coastal and riverbank areas, as well as to control smuggling, drug trafficking. Following a tip-off, a special operation was carried out around 2 AM on Wednesday by the Bangladesh Coast Guard East Zone, along with RAB, CPC-1 members, at the southeastern part of Shahpari Island, in the mouth of the Naf River and Bay of Bengal.
During the operation, a suspicious engine-powered wooden boat was signaled to stop by the operation team, but it ignored the signal attempted to flee. The Coast Guard team chased the boat was able to apprehend it from the mouth of the Naf River.
Upon searching the boat, they found two lacs yaba tablets wrapped in sacks and arrested seven drug traffickers. The detainees are: Yasin (56), Mustafa (33), Ilyas (21), Din Mohammad (34), Md. Saber (30), Zakaria (24) and Abdur Rahman (45).
