Customs authorities at Sylhet Osmani International Airport have recovered 8 gold bars hidden under an empty seat on a Bangladesh Airlines flight. The bars were seized from flight BG-248, which arrived from Dubai on Friday.
According to a press release from the National Board of Revenue (NBR), the Sylhet Customs, Excise, and VAT Commissionerate authorities conducted a raid on the flight based on confidential information. A total of 8 gold bars weighing 933 grams were found hidden under an empty seat using special methods. No one was arrested in connection with the incident.
The release further stated that the Sylhet Osmani International Airport Customs authorities are seeking assistance from various intelligence agencies, stakeholders, passengers, and the public for the national interest.
Liberty News’ national correspondent reported that in the last 3 months, Sylhet Osmani International Airport has seized nearly 21.35 kg of gold in 9 operations.
