An eight-year-old girl, brutally assaulted in Magura, has been transferred from Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital for advanced treatment. The move follows medical board recommendations and government intervention.
DMCH Deputy Director Ashraful Alam confirmed the transfer at 5 PM on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, Social Welfare Adviser Sharmin Murshid visited the victim and directed her relocation to CMH.
Hospital sources reported that a medical team accompanied the child in a cardiac ambulance. She remains in critical condition, relying on a ventilator. Doctors revealed severe injuries, including genital trauma and throat wounds.
The victim, who had traveled to visit her sister’s home in Magura, was found unconscious and rushed to a local hospital before being transferred to DMCH. Her family remains in shock, as she has not regained consciousness.
Police suspect sexual assault, and two individuals—the victim’s brother-in-law and his father—are in custody for questioning. Meanwhile, protests erupted in Magura, with demonstrators demanding swift justice. Authorities deployed the army to disperse the crowd.
On Saturday, the victim’s mother filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, naming her daughter’s brother-in-law, his parents, and his elder brother as accused. All four suspects, already in police custody, have now been officially arrested in connection with the crime.
Liberty News’ crime correspondent states that Magura’s Additional Superintendent of Police Mirajul Islam confirmed the case registration and assured that investigations are underway to ensure justice.
