At least 84 Palestinians have been killed and 168 others injured in the span of 24 hours as Israel escalates its aerial bombardment across the Gaza Strip, according to the enclave’s health ministry.

Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) ramped up their airstrikes on Gaza from Thursday evening to Friday evening, leading to the deaths of 84 Palestinians and injuring at least 168 more, the Gaza Health Ministry confirmed in a statement. The actual death toll is feared to be higher, as many victims remain trapped beneath the rubble and are yet to be recovered.

Since launching its offensive in October 2023, following a surprise Hamas attack inside Israel, the IDF has carried out relentless operations across Gaza. Over the past 18 months, the total number of Palestinian casualties has reached 51,400 dead and 116,416 injured — with women and children making up 56 percent of the victims.

The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants crossed into southern Israel, killing around 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages. In response, Israel launched a sustained military campaign, which has since devastated large parts of Gaza and resulted in one of the deadliest escalations in the region’s history.
