The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is set to launch an ‘all-out action’ against identified terrorist groups in various areas of Dhaka city. A ‘zero-tolerance’ policy has been adopted for both major, minor crimes and criminals.

This statement was made by Additional Commissioner of DB, Rezaul Karim Mallik, during a press conference held at the DMP Media Center today (Saturday) at 11:30 AM. The purpose of the press conference was to discuss efforts to maintain law and order during the holy month of Ramadan.

Rezaul Karim Mallik stated, “The holy month of Ramadan, a time for fasting, is approaching. To ensure the safety of city residents during this sacred month, the Detective Branch of DMP is working tirelessly. DB currently plays a crucial role in maintaining law and order. Alongside our ongoing operations, we will also begin a special operation for Ramadan. This will be a covert intelligence operation, where our officers will work undercover to identify criminals among the public. We are going for an ‘all-out action’ against identified terrorist groups in various areas of Dhaka city.”

He stated that during Ramadan, people’s activities increase, especially in financial transactions. There is a rise in crowds at shopping malls and banks, there is also more foot traffic at railway stations, bus terminals, Sadarghat, among other places. To prevent any sabotage in these areas, we are increasing our intelligence surveillance. Additionally, to ensure that there are no accidents, especially on long-distance travel routes like buses, we are enhancing the use of DB’s information technology through intelligence efforts in advance.

The head of DB mentioned that intelligence reports indicate that most of those involved in theft, snatching, robbery are between the ages of 15 and 30. Many of them are part of juvenile gangs. They are getting involved in various crimes. Moreover, some fascist political forces are instigating them to engage in criminal activities.

He further added that joint forces have increased their activities across the country to maintain law and order. Other security forces are also on the ground, the Bangladesh Army is playing an important role in this. We are supporting them with various intelligence reports, this collaboration will increase in the future.

The DB chief further stated that the law and order situation in the city is gradually improving. Our task is to strengthen intelligence surveillance, we are prioritizing this aspect. We hope that in the coming days, you will witness a better situation. We urge the public to inform us if anyone is being secretly taken or searched by individuals in civil clothing claiming to be DB officers. Also, if there is any information regarding potential sabotage, please assist DB by providing us with the details. Rest assured, we will take the necessary action while keeping your identity confidential.

The Additional Police Commissioner (DB) said that DB is determined to investigate important cases and bring identified criminals under the law. As part of this effort, we have already been able to arrest a significant number of robbers, dacoits, habitual offenders. The DB operates with a focus on maintaining quality, considering the severity of crimes. Our work has both uniqueness & transparency, with clear accountability. Just as we aim to be a trusted refuge for the public, we also strive to be a source of fear for criminals. This is the principle we continue to work by.

He stated that small crimes give birth to larger ones. Therefore, we have adopted a zero-tolerance policy for any crime or criminal. The DB’s regular operations to prevent theft, snatching, robbery continue. To protect society from the grip of drugs, anti-drug operations are being carried out daily. Whether a notorious terrorist or any other criminal, they must be caught in the DB’s net. We will not show any leniency towards those who create chaos in society and pose a security risk to the public.

He further added that during the holy month of Ramadan, DB’s activities have been intensified to ensure the safety of the city’s residents while they engage in their religious duties. I can confidently say that the citizens will experience a safer, more peaceful environment during this time. DB is here for you whenever needed. Following the directives of the current interim government and senior officials, we will be fully committed to maintaining peace & order in the city. This country belongs to all of us. When there is peace in the country, there will be peace in the hearts of the people. I urge the public to join the law enforcement agencies in making the country safe.
