The country’s only satellite, previously known as Bangabandhu Satellite-1, has been officially renamed Bangladesh Satellite-1, marking a significant change in its identity.
The decision was confirmed in an official notification signed by Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology. According to the statement, the proposal to rename Bangabandhu Satellite-1 (BS-1) as Bangladesh Satellite-1 (BS-1) has been approved by the Chief Adviser. Authorities have been instructed to take the necessary steps to implement the change.
Prior to this, Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) had sent a letter to the Department of Posts and Telecommunications regarding the name change. Additionally, the organization proposed reverting the names of two satellite ground stations—Sajeeb Wazed Ground Station, Gazipur, and Sajeeb Wazed Ground Station, Betbunia—to their original names: Primary Satellite Ground Station, Gazipur, and Secondary Satellite Ground Station, Betbunia.
