Amid ongoing labor unrest in the Tongi and Mouchak areas of Gazipur, 10 factories have declared a holiday. The unrest led to road blockades and protests, which were later cleared after negotiations with workers.

On Tuesday, March 11, the Police Superintendent of Gazipur Industrial Police, AKM Jahirul Islam, confirmed that 10 factories in the area had declared a holiday due to ongoing worker protests.

Since the morning, workers had blocked the Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Mymensingh highways, demanding various changes. After negotiations, the workers were persuaded to lift the blockade, allowing traffic to return to normal.

Islam stated that discussions were ongoing between the factory owners and workers regarding the workers’ demands, with hopes of reaching a resolution soon.

Liberty News’ local correspondent states that reports have emerged that workers who did not participate in the protest were allegedly beaten by other protesting workers. Due to the overall situation, the authorities have declared a holiday in the 10 affected factories as of 12 PM.
