In Magura, a human chain was organized by the Women’s Wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami demanding justice for the death of a child, Achiya, who was a victim of Sexual assault. The human chain took place in front of the National Press Club at 10 am on Saturday.
The participants in the human chain raised slogans such as: “Give the right to life & security,” “Public execution of rapists, must be done,” “Sexual assault cases must be resolved within 90 days,” “Abolish bail provisions for rapists, must be done,” and “One law, one punishment for Sexual assault cases; rapists must be executed.”
During the event, Professor Nurunnisa Siddika, Secretary of the Women’s Wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, stated that the verdict in the Achiya murder case must be delivered within a week , the accused must be sentenced to death. All rapists must be executed. She also mentioned that the culture of secularism and the lack of moral education are responsible for the deterioration of values, that Islamic education systems should be implemented to inspire people with religious values. She called for the proper implementation of the law, the avoidance of delays in justice, the need to move away from the culture of impunity. She emphasized that the provision of imprisonment in rape cases should be abolished only the death penalty (execution) should be enforced.
She further stated that the interim government’s declaration to resolve rape cases within 90 days and to abolish the bail provisions should be implemented. She emphasized that not only was the child Achiya Sexual assaulted, but she was also murdered.
Additionally, Advocate Sabikun Nahar Munni and Nazmun Nahar Neel, members of the Central Working Committee of the Women’s Wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, also spoke at the event.
The human chain was also attended by Assistant Secretary Saida Rumman and Marzia Begum, along with Central Working Committee members Rosina Akhter, Ayesha Siddika Parveen, Salma Sultana, Irani Akhter, Mahbuba Jahan, Khondkar Ayesha Siddika, Sufia Jamal, as well as responsible leaders from the North & South metropolitan areas.
