Jahangirnagar University (JU) has temporarily expelled 9 teachers and 289 students over their involvement in the violence during the anti-discrimination student protests.
The university authorities took the decision after a meeting of the Syndicate late Monday night. These actions are in response to allegations that the individuals were involved in attacking protesting students during the anti-discrimination movement. Additionally, the pension benefits of former Vice Chancellor Professor Md. Nurul Alam and former Registrar Abu Hasan have been revoked.
Liberty News’ campus correspondent states that the decision was made following a Syndicate meeting held at the new administrative building at 11 am on Monday, and the official announcement was made around 3 am. The university administration has made it clear that strict actions will be taken against those involved in the violent incidents.
