In a case related to corruption in the allocation of plots by the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), an arrest warrant has been issued for former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her daughter, Saima Wazed Putul, along with 16 other individuals. The court issued the warrants on Thursday after accepting the charge sheet submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court has ordered the arrest of 18 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul, in connection with a corruption case involving irregularities in the allocation of plots by RAJUK. The charges include abuse of power and fraudulent actions for personal gain.

On Thursday, Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib of the Dhaka Metropolitan Court issued the arrest warrants following the acceptance of a charge sheet presented by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The charges relate to the illegal allocation of a plot in the Purbachal New Town project despite the family already owning residential property in Dhaka.

The case, filed on January 12 by ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya, accuses Sheikh Hasina’s daughter, Saima Wazed Putul, of using her mother’s power to secure the plot illegally. Despite not being eligible for the allocation, Putul was granted a plot in Purbachal through manipulation, along with other co-conspirators, who influenced government employees to break the law for personal and family benefits.

The other accused individuals include senior officials from various government departments, including the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, RAJUK, and retired military personnel. The court has set May 4 as the deadline for a report on the execution of the arrest warrants.

Liberty News’ court correspondent states that in the case filed by ACC, it is alleged that Saima Wazed Putul and others violated legal procedures in plot allocation, securing the property fraudulently, resulting in a breach of trust and corruption.
