Drug dealer held with cannabis in Laxmipur

Police have arrested a suspected drug dealer with 200 grams of cannabis in Kamalnagar upazila of Laxmipur.

The arrestee, Md Faruk (40), was detained on Monday evening from the Char Lawrence Bazar area under Kamalnagar.

Liberty News’ local correspondent reports that Faruk, son of the late Hanif of Ward No. 3 in Char Lawrence Union, reportedly worked as an auto-rickshaw driver while allegedly being involved in drug dealing under the guise of his profession. Locals claimed that he has been involved in drug use and trafficking in various areas for a long time. His mother, Farul Begum, is also allegedly involved in the drug trade, according to locals.

Confirming the arrest, Kamalnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Touhidul Islam said a team conducted a raid following a tip-off that drug traders were active in the Char Lawrence area. During the operation, 200 grams of cannabis were recovered from Faruk.

A case is being prepared against him under the Narcotics Control Act, the OC added.
