Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir staged protest rallies in nine districts on Tuesday, demanding justice for all mass killings, including the July massacre, unconditional release of ATM Azharul Islam, and withdrawal of all political cases filed during what they termed a “fascist regime.”
Protests took place in Comilla, Noakhali, Cox’s Bazar, Moulvibazar, Satkhira, Jessore, Bogura, Nilphamari, and Panchagarh, as part of Shibir’s ongoing campaign for justice and political redress.
Azizur Rahman Azad, Central Publicity Secretary of Chhatra Shibir, stated that justice for multiple massacres committed under authoritarian rule remains elusive. “Many cases were never investigated, and the July massacre still awaits any visible judicial proceedings. This is a national disgrace,” he said.
The protesters also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of ATM Azharul Islam, former Dhaka University Shibir president, calling his continued imprisonment unjust even after what they claim is the fall of fascism.
Shibir leaders further urged the government to withdraw all political cases filed against Shibir members and other political activists during that period. Speakers reminded the authorities of the organization’s three-week ultimatum to cancel all such cases.
