Hundreds of student activists and political supporters continued their overnight sit-in in front of the interim government chief advisor’s residence, demanding a clear roadmap to ban the Awami League and hold it accountable for alleged crimes.
What began as a night protest at 10 PM on Thursday turned into a growing demonstration Friday morning as members of various student and political groups remained stationed outside the Jamuna state guesthouse. By 6 AM, protesters from the National Citizen Party (NCP), July Oikko, Islami Chhatra Shibir, AB Party, Qawmi madrasah students, and other organizations chanted slogans calling for the abolition of the ruling party.
The protest was led by NCP convener Nahid Islam and member secretary Akhtar Hossain, who arrived at the site with party leaders around 1 AM. Addressing the gathering, Nahid said, “The interim government’s first responsibility was to ban the Awami League. It’s been nine months, and still, we are forced to return to the streets.”
Chants such as “Ban Awami League,” “My brother’s in the grave, the killer walks free,” and “One two three four, Awami League no more” echoed across the area as the crowd swelled with leaders from groups like Hefazat-e-Islam and Inqilab Moncho.
The protest remains peaceful but tense, with growing participation and heightened security in the surrounding area.
