Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the interim government, will arrive in Chattogram today, marking his first official visit to the port city since taking on the role. The city is fully prepared to welcome one of its most distinguished sons.
The day’s schedule begins with a visit to the Chittagong Port’s main terminal, the Asian Container Terminal (ACT), where Dr. Yunus will inspect operations and hold discussions with port officials, trade organization leaders, and users of the port facilities.
Following that, he will proceed to Chattogram Circuit House, where he is scheduled to inaugurate the foundation of the much-anticipated Kalurghat Bridge over the Karnaphuli River. The bridge is expected to significantly benefit residents of Boalkhali, Patiya, and the southern bank of the river.
In the afternoon, Dr. Yunus will head to the University of Chittagong to serve as the chief guest at its fifth convocation. The ceremony, held at the university’s central field, will see nearly 22,600 students from the academic years 2011 to 2023 receive their degrees. In recognition of his global contributions to poverty alleviation and peace, the university will confer upon him an honorary D.Litt degree.
Concluding his visit, the Chief Adviser will travel to his ancestral village, Bathua in the Shikarpur Union of Hathazari. There, he will visit the graves of his grandparents for prayers and meet with relatives and local residents in a community gathering near the family’s historical home.
