79 shops burnt in Munshiganj fire

At least 79 shops were gutted in a fire that broke out at in Munshiganj’sSreenagar upazila early hours of Friday.

The fire incident took place around 2:00 AM at Batt Tola area of Sreenagar Bazar.

According to the locals, the fire originated in the middle of the market and escalated it to the surrounding areas quickly.

Being informed, four fire engines from Sreenagar, Louhajang and Sirajdikhan rushed to the spot and doused the flame at 7:00 AM, said Sreenagar Fire Service Station station officer Dewan Amzad Hossain.

No casualties have so far been reported in this connection, he said, adding that the extent of the damage could not be determined yet.

Public Works and Housing Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan visited the spot this morning and said that the Ministry of Disaster Management has already been contacted. After receiving the report from the Fire Service, the damage will be assessed and assistance will be provided to the affected people through the administration, he added.
