The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast thunderstorms with gusty winds across five regions of the country by Sunday noon, urging river ports in those areas to hoist cautionary signal number one.
According to the latest BMD bulletin issued on Sunday morning, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet regions are likely to experience temporary gusty or squally winds at speeds of 45–60 km/h, accompanied by rain or thundershowers from the west or northwest.
The weather office has advised river ports in these regions to display local cautionary signal number one to alert navigators and residents near the rivers.
The forecast further mentions that by 6:00 PM today, many parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, as well as several areas in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions, may experience temporary gusty winds, lightning, and scattered showers. Isolated locations in Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions could face moderate to heavy rainfall.
Day and night temperatures across the country may drop slightly, while a mild heatwave sweeping over Khulna and Bandarban may subside, the BMD added.
