The United Kingdom has suspended its free trade negotiations with Israel in response to renewed military aggression in Gaza, Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced on Tuesday.

According to a report by BBC News, the decision comes amid intensified Israeli attacks in the blockaded Gaza Strip, which the UK government described as deeply concerning.

In a statement to Parliament, Foreign Secretary David Lammy said, “We have suspended our ongoing negotiations with the Israeli government on a new free trade agreement.” He added that the UK would now review its bilateral cooperation with Israel under the 2030 Roadmap, citing the actions of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government as a key reason for the reassessment.

Lammy further announced that Israel’s ambassador to the UK, Tzipi Hotovely, would be summoned. UK Minister for the Middle East, Hamish Falconer, is expected to express to the envoy that the 11-week blockade of Gaza is “cruel and indefensible.”

The move reflects mounting international pressure on Israel amid growing concerns over humanitarian conditions in Gaza and the disproportionate use of force.
