Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has assured that Bangladesh’s borders are fully secure and that no security gaps exist amid rising concerns over border pushbacks.
Speaking to journalists after the concluding parade ceremony of the 14th batch of Deputy Jailers and the 62nd batch of male and female prison guards at the Rajshahi Prison Training Centre on Tuesday, the adviser emphasized that both the people and borders of Bangladesh remain entirely safe.
He said Bangladesh has formally protested the increase in pushbacks at the border and has asked India to repatriate undocumented Bangladeshis through proper channels. “We return foreigners residing illegally in our country following legal procedures, and similarly, we are prepared to bring back our citizens through the same process,” he added.
On the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, the adviser said that, just like the peaceful celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, all necessary steps have been taken to ensure improved law and order during the festival. Relevant authorities have been instructed accordingly.
Regarding inflation and agricultural production, he noted that rice production has increased by approximately 1.5 million tons and that potato prices have declined. While acknowledging that some farmers may not be receiving fair prices, he urged all stakeholders to support and encourage farmers to ensure they are justly compensated.
Inspector General of Prisons Brig. Gen. Syed Md. Motaher Hossain and RMP Commissioner Abu Sufian were among the top law enforcement officials present at the event.
