A low-pressure area over the Northwest Bay and adjoining regions has intensified into a well-marked low, according to a bulletin issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Wednesday.
The system is expected to strengthen further in the coming days.
As a result, the southwest monsoon has advanced into Barishal, Chattogram, Sylhet, Mymensingh, and the eastern part of Dhaka division, marking the early spread of the rainy season across the country.
The Met office forecasted light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by lightning and temporary gusty winds in most places across Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. A few areas in Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions may also experience rainfall.
Moderately heavy to very heavy showers are likely in isolated locations within Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions.
In addition, daytime temperatures are expected to drop by 1 to 2°C across the country, while night temperatures may decrease slightly within the next 24 hours starting from 9 AM Wednesday.
