Over 500 patrol teams have been deployed across the country to maintain law and order during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays, Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced today.
Addressing reporters, the adviser said all law enforcement agencies are on full alert, especially in the capital’s alleys and residential areas, to prevent theft, mugging, and other crimes. No leave has been granted to personnel during this period.
Special security measures are in place for major Eid congregations, including Baitul Mukarram National Mosque and the National Eidgah. “We’ve taken contingency measures in case of rain and instructed police stations not to refuse any complaints,” said Jahangir.
A pilot project enabling online filing of general diaries (GDs) has been launched in Sylhet Division, with plans to expand nationwide, he added.
Commenting on repeat offenders, the adviser warned, “Whether it’s a pangas, katla or rui — no one will be spared.”
He also urged journalists to avoid misinformation, warning that false reports could harm the country’s image.
Meanwhile, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) has intensified surveillance at Eid venues and transport hubs. “We’ve deployed strike forces, watchtowers, bomb disposal units, and dog squads. Our teams are monitoring everything from cattle markets to shopping malls,” said Rab’s legal and media wing director, Wing Commander MZM Enthekhab Chowdhury.
He added that Rab is actively curbing extortion on highways and black-marketing of tickets, ensuring a smooth and safe Eid for travellers.
“We believe our efforts have already made an impact. The public can expect a safe and festive Eid,” Enthekhab said.
