BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed deep concern over the killing incident of Mitford area in the capital and demanded exemplary punishment of the criminals.

In a written statement, he said on 9 July, a young businessman named Mohammad Sohag was brutally hacked and beaten to death in public at the main gate of Mitford Hospital in the capital.

The BNP leader expressed deep concern and strong condemnation and protest of this barbaric murder committed by miscreants.

“This heinous incident is not just a loss of life – it is an expression of deep despair in the protection of national security, civil rights and law and order,” he said.

Mirza Fakhrul said terrorism and barbarity have no link with the principles, ideology and politics of the BNP. “Whoever the perpetrator is, his place can never be above the law and justice.”

He said the brutal killing incident, which took place after the fall of the Awami fascist government in the July-August mass movement, has deeply shaken the conscience of the people of the country.

“If exemplary justice is not served for the demonic and heinous incident that took place in broad daylight, the culture of impunity will plunge our society into deeper darkness,” he added.

The BNP leader asked the interim government to ensure an immediate, impartial and credible investigation into the above incident and to bring the real perpetrators to justice and set an example of exemplary punishment.

“I pray for the soul of the deceased and express my deepest condolences to his family,” he said.
