Shamsul Alam Liton, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology (ADUST), has emphasized the importance of acquiring proficiency in the English language. He said that in today’s world, mastering English is essential for enhancing global communication and professional competence. In a competitive global environment, not just academic degrees but smart communication skills and the ability to adapt to global work culture determine the future of students and professionals alike.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a seminar titled “English for Work”, organized by the Skill Development Institute (SDI) of ADUST, held on Friday afternoon at the university’s Diabari campus in the capital.
Joining virtually from Bangkok, Dr. A. N. M. Ehsanul Hoque Milan, Director of SDI and former State Minister for Education, said that SDI has been established to enhance hands-on skills among students. This initiative is a part of that mission, helping students present themselves confidently on the international stage.
Speakers at the seminar highlighted that such initiatives play a crucial role in enhancing global work competence and communication skills among the youth.
ADUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Jahangir Alam presided over the event. The keynote presentation was delivered by researcher and senior IELTS instructor Mozammel Mobarak Hossain, along with Jannatul Fahim and Miraz Hossain. The seminar was moderated by Program Coordinator Tanzim Ara Izhum.
Other speakers included Member Secretary Md. Kamruzzaman Litu, Chief Academic Advisor Professor Dr. A. B. M. Shahidul Islam, Chairman of the Agribusiness Department Dr. Md. Mosharraf Hossain, and Operations Manager Barrister Zakir Hossain.
Advisors from various faculties, University Registrar Md. Abdul Kaiyum Sardar, department chairpersons, teachers, and a large number of students were also present at the seminar.
