An archway set up by the Nationalist Citizen Party (NCP) in Narayanganj’s College Road area was set ablaze by unidentified individuals early Friday, just hours before the party’s scheduled rally.

The fire broke out around 3:30am. NCP leaders accused members of the banned Chhatra League of carrying out the arson. Ahmedur Rahman Tonu, a central NCP leader, claimed the attackers fled when a night guard intervened. “We have informed the police and are demanding a fair investigation,” he said.

Police confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway. Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Tarek Al Mehdi said they are taking the matter seriously.

Meanwhile, NCP leaders and supporters are expected to gather in Narayanganj’s Nitaiganj area on Friday to begin their previously announced “July March” programme.
