Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen on Thursday acknowledged that the ACC itself is plagued by corruption, just like many other state institutions in Bangladesh.
Speaking at the unveiling of the foundation plaque for a new six-story ACC building on C&B Road in Barishal, Momen said that although the ACC is tasked with combating corruption, it too suffers from the same problem. He added that since taking office, he has been working to root out corruption within the commission.
The ACC chairman linked the downfall of the Awami League government last year to widespread corruption, stating that governments must act against corruption to avoid public outrage.
“Our team is not compromising with anyone,” he said, adding that even those acquitted by the courts would face appeal proceedings. He also urged the judiciary to act responsibly and called on all sectors of society—including the media—to play their part in the fight against corruption.
Later, he participated in a discussion at the Barishal Circuit House on the theme “citizen services free from corruption,” where Barishal Division’s Commissioner and the Deputy Commissioner were also present.
