More than 48 percent of people have not yet decided whom they will vote for in the upcoming parliamentary election. Meanwhile, 14.4 percent of respondents refused to disclose their preferred candidate, according to a survey by BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD).

Among those who have decided, 12 percent said they would vote for BNP, 10.4 percent for Jamaat-e-Islami, 7.3 percent for Awami League, and 2.8 percent for NCP.

When asked the same question eight months ago in October, 16.3 percent said BNP, 11.3 percent Jamaat, and 2 percent NCP.

Thus, the survey shows a slight decrease in support for BNP and Jamaat, while NCP’s support has marginally increased over the past eight months.

The survey results were unveiled Monday in Dhaka at a program discussing interim government performance, reforms, elections, and political party popularity.

Among those under 27 years old, more respondents preferred Jamaat than BNP. Specifically, 9 percent favored BNP, 12 percent Jamaat, 7 percent Awami League, and 4 percent NCP in this age group.

Among people aged 28 to 35, support for BNP and Jamaat was equal, each with 11 percent.

However, in the over-50 age group, BNP enjoyed higher popularity: 16 percent supported BNP, 9 percent Jamaat, 7 percent Awami League, and 4 percent NCP.

The survey also found variations in party support based on education level. Among graduates, both BNP and Jamaat received 10 percent support each, Awami League 5 percent, and NCP 4 percent.

Among those with no formal education, BNP had 14 percent support, Jamaat 9 percent, Awami League 7 percent, and NCP 2 percent.

Regarding election integrity, 70 percent of respondents believe the upcoming election will be fair, while 15 percent think it will not be.
