A total of 21 candidates have withdrawn their nominations from the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections.

Chief Returning Officer Prof Mohammad Jasim Uddin disclosed the information at a press briefing held at the Senate Bhaban on Monday afternoon.

Mentioning that no major violations of the electoral code of conduct have been reported so far, he said the election authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent irregularities. “If any kind of discrimination or irregularity is found, it should be reported in writing. We will take action as per the rules.”

With the withdrawal of candidates, the formal election campaign officially began on Monday.

The chief returning officer emphasised the need for honesty and impartiality throughout the electoral process. To cast their votes, students will be required to show their hall pass, university ID card, library card, or pay-in slip. The move aims to ensure proper identification and prevent unauthorised participation.

Meanwhile, a meeting on the election code of conduct with the candidates for vice-president (VP), general secretary (GS), and assistant general secretary (AGS) posts will be held at the Senate Hall on Tuesday at 11 am. The session is intended to clarify guidelines and encourage fair competition among participants.

Reiterating his commitment to a free and transparent election, Jasim Uddin urged students to report any irregularities through proper channels.

He added that his team is keeping a close watch on campaign activities to ensure compliance with the rules.
