Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday ordered the health ministry to send Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur abroad to ensure advanced treatment for him.

The interim government head issued the order in response to a request Nur’s wife Maria Akter made in this regard during a visit to the state guesthouse Jamuna.

During the visit, Maria was accompanied by Gono Odhikar Parishad’s General Secretary Rashed Khan, and Senior Joint General Secretary Hasan Al Mamun.

Law Adviser Asif Nazrul, Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan were also present in the casual meeting.

Nur has suffered bleeding in his brain, fractures on his nose and jawbone as well as injury to his backbone, Maria told the chief adviser as she broke down in tears.

Nur was injured after law enforcers intervened in a clash between his party and Jatiya Party in Paltan area. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has condemned the incident as an attempt on Nur’s life.

During the meeting with Maria, Prof Yunus said the attack on Nur has shaken “everyone.” A judicial probe in the incident is continuing, while authorities have taken all the necessary measures for ensuring his proper treatment, the chief adviser added.

On the occasion, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul said a gazette will be published Wednesday over the one-member judicial probe committee of Justice Ali Reza. The committee would complete its probe within the next 15 days, Asif Nazrul added.
